It’s a wrap on 2025! 🎉
For me this was the third full year writing fanfiction (I started in July 2022) and continuing a tradition I started in 2023, here’s an attempt to summarize my 2025 in terms of writing efforts and all things fandom-related.

2025: Year in Review

• MEMORABLE MOMENTS
A couple of fannish memorable moments:
  • May:Word Count Pledge (75k) Completed with [community profile] getyourwordsout
  • General: I have NO (published) WIPs for the first time since I started writing fanfics in 2022.
I did start writing a bunch of fics, but they’re all unpublished, so I don’t feel that pressure of having unfinished published stuff, you know? SO liberating and satisfying!

So here’s what my fannish year looked like!

A special thank you in this year-wrap post goes once again to my amazing beta marinaeulalia who is a wonderful person and the best supporter any writer could wish for. Continuing to work with her as my beta was most definitely a highlight of 2025.

Happy New Year! 🎉

I borrowed the following questions from [community profile] ficwip although I did not use all the available questions.
Click HERE for the original full list.

Fanfic Writing — 2025 in Review

Including WIPs, how many fics have you worked on since January 1st? Original fiction counts too!
I’ve worked on 21 fics.
  • 2 multichapter started in 2024, complete
  • 3 multichapter started in 2025, complete
  • 4 multichapter started in 2025, WIP but unpublished
  • 2 drabble collections (one complete with 100 drabbles, one just started)
  • 6 one-shots, all complete
  • 2 prompt-based drabble stories, complete
  • 1 “50 sentence” challenge for [community profile] 1character
  • 1 chapter for a multi-author story, WIP

How many did you post for other people to read?
15 of the above mentioned projects are published.

What’s something NEW that you tried in a fic?
Writing from the POV of a cat. It was a fun experiment.

How many fandoms did you write for?
99% of my fics are for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I also wrote a ficlet for Corazón Salvaje (TV, Mexico, 1993).

Did you write for any new fandoms or ships?
Yep, it was the first time for me writing about Corazón Salvaje and the Juan/Mónica ship. It was for a challenge to write for rare fandoms.

What fic meant the most to you to write?
What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?
What fic was the most satisfying to finish?

Putting these together because they all make me think of one specific fic: Out of Dodge.
BtVS/Spuffy, alternate reality, road trip, 21 chapters, +50k words, written in about 2-3 months.
My Muse was on a roll and I hadn’t felt so in love with a story for months. The words just poured out of me and it’s a feeling I hope to experience again sometime soon.

What’s the most interesting topic you researched for a fic?
Probably trying to figure out possible levels of education and university degrees in Victorian England.

What were your shortest and longest fics?
Written in 2025, I suppose.
The shortest was “Keeper” with 1,368 words.
The longest was “Out of Dodge” with 50,085 words.

What was on your writing playlist?
I never write with background music.
I need as much silence as possible. Music and songs distract me.

Where did you write? Was there a favorite spot?
Always my room. Either at my desk or in bed with my tablet.

What’s your favorite title of the year?
Probably “Gone With the Wheel”... which is a play on Gone With the Wind based on the fact that this prompt-based drabble story featured the use of a wheel tool on Discord to pick a new prompt for each day.

If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?
Definitely May and June when my Muse was on a roll with “Out of Dodge”.

Did you create fanworks other than fic? Show one off!
A story poster that I made for “Out of Dodge”... Can you tell yet how much I LOVED writing this story?
Out-of-Dodge_StoryPoster.jpeg

How many fannish events did you take part in? Things like bangs, exchanges, ship weeks, zines, prompt memes, etc. They all count!
Well, there were the 4 annual archive events at Sunnydale After Dark (for 2025: “Short & Spuffy” in March, “Wanderlust” in June, “Missing Pieces” in September, “’Tis the Season” in December) and I guess I should count the “50 Sentences” challenge for [community profile] 1character. I completed a few bingo cards too. I can’t think of anything else.

If this were an awards show, who would you thank?
My lovely, incomparable beta reader, Marina.
She’s the best cheerleader and partner any writer could hope for. We’ve been working together since 2023 and my writing has improved so much since then. I owe her a lot!

Happy New Year! 🎉

Back in December 2024 I signed up for the Fannish 50 challenge at [community profile] goals_on_dw and here’s my fifth and final Masterpost for this challenge.

I decided to compile a new masterpost every ten entries and below is a list of links to my Fannish 50 entries from #41 to #50 and a collection of thumbnails for each fanart.

Considering recent changes in my everyday life and how taxing it’s been for me to create the final 10 entries, I decided to take a Fannish 50 break in 2026. Whether I’ll give it a try again in 2027 or not... only time will tell.

Here are the final entries, completing this year’s challenge:

Fannish 50 Theme:
Favorite Opening Credits (10/10)

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Years: 1997-2003
Networks: The WB/UPN
Theme: “Main Title (Buffy Theme)” by Nerf Herder

Some intros are catchy, some are stylish, and then there’s iconic.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the timeless instrumental punch of Nerf Herder’s “Main Title (Buffy Theme)” blasting through your speakers belongs undoubtedly to this latest category. It’s fast-paced and grungy and unapologetically 90s—let melancholy take over.

Why I picked these opening credits (click on the arrow to read)

What I love most is how the image sequence is tailored to each season, as if it’s growing with the characters, the show, and the viewers. Each year, the credits are updated with fresh clips from past and current seasons, so the intro becomes like a living scrapbook of Buffy’s journey.

Personally I always loved spotting which moments made the cut (and how they were perfectly synced with the score), sometimes even catching glimpses of episodes yet to air.

For me, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer intro is a ritual. It’s the kind of opening you never skip, because it’s part of the experience. And let’s be real: despite being so distinctly late 90s, its vibe is evergreen. You hear those first guitar riffs and instantly you’re back in Sunnydale, ready to fight vampires and other monsters alongside Buffy.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s opening credits are a perfect mix of nostalgia and power, a 90s time capsule that still slays today.

Fannish 50 Theme:
Favorite TV Shows (10/10)

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Years: 1997-2003
Networks: The WB/UPN

Some shows simply entertain you, others end up shaping entire generations. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is firmly in the second category. It’s not just about staking vampires—it’s about growing up, facing demons (literal and metaphorical), and finding strength in the toughest moments of life.

FANART (mine)
49_fannish50.jpeg

Why I picked this TV show (click on the arrow to read)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is timeless. It’s been off air for over 20 years and it’s always gaining new viewers, while its main ships are still as polarizing as ever—of course Spuffy keeps slaying.
Sure, many episodes and jokes didn’t age well, but you’ve got to watch it being aware that it’s a child of its time—the 90s. Truly, some people should stop trying to find flawed cultural messages, targeted phobias, and/or personal attacks everywhere. Don’t like it? Don’t watch it. It’s as simple as that.

What makes Buffy the Vampire Slayer timeless is its ability to mix campy fun with gut-wrenching storytelling. One episode you’re laughing at a musical demon, the next you’re crying over loss that feels too real. Buffy herself is the ultimate heroine: witty, real, flawed, brave, and constantly juggling high school drama with apocalypses and a complicated love life.

For me, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a touchstone. It’s the kind of series you revisit and still find new meaning in, no matter how many times you’ve walked through Sunnydale. That’s why it will always be one of my favorites.
